The idea of making 33 illustrations from Dante’s Inferno was born to give my passion for drawing linearity, diligence and continuity: I did not want to waste my precious retirement time. But drawing is still an amusement! I will draw a “fantastic version” of Dante’s Inferno, even if I do not hide the ambition to render Dante’s experience, through the “inferno”, in a key as “human” as possible. I will follow the letter of the text when “unavoidable”; other times I will deviate from it without problems: I already know that my “damned souls” will be anything but incorporeal. In the first illustration above, for example, I strictly respected the words of the incipit of Canto , but minding the figure of Dante very little: in fact I would redesign that in the future. The technique is very basic. Very detailed pencil, ink (nib or fineliner) for the outlines and hatching, watercolor.
